Tramadol is a tablet, extended-release (long-acting) tablet and extended-release (long-acting) capsule, which can be taken orally. Regular tablets are usually taken with or without food every 4 to 6 hours as needed. Sustained-release tablets and sustained-release capsules should be taken once a day. Sustained-release tablets and sustained-release capsules are taken at approximately the same time each day. If you are taking a sustained release capsule, you can take it with or without food. If you are taking a sustained release tablet, you should always take it with or without food. Take tramadol exactly as directed. Do not take more medicines at a time or do not take more than your doctor’s prescription.
